SUNDAY SCHOOL needs volunteers– Our Sunday School is growing!  Help is needed, especially in the children’s Sunday School.  You don’t have to be a professional teacher in order to reach a child’s heart and teach him or her about the love of God.  A full time commitment is not needed, and responsibilities can be shared.  Please prayerfully consider helping with one of the following positions:  Superintendent of Sunday school, Secretary of Sunday school, Nursery workers, Preschool teacher, Substitute teacher.  Contact Helen Ward if you can help.

Every Tuesday - Free Clinic - 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM - We need a receptionist for the first Tuesday of the month, Dec. 6 coming up. Let Julianne Rosas know if you can volunteer as a receptionist or screener one day a month. Training provided!

RESPITE CARE PROGRAM is looking to add additional volunteers.  Activities that we do include devotion, music, exercise, walking, cooking, stuffing Sunday bulletins and making items for the pre-school and our Visiting Ministry.  
Requirements include patience, a passion for caring for others and would like to 
join us 4 hrs./month, please contact Mary Lou at 703-304-6609.  Volunteers must have a background check, TB screening by their physician and participate in a 2 hr. training session prior to joining our program.  
Male volunteers are especially appreciated!​

We have a supervised nursery for infants and toddlers from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM and various adult, children, and teen Sunday school classes from 9:30  - 10:45 AM.

“It’s Called Christmas”
Christmas Program, Worship Service and Covered Dish, Sunday, December 4th at 5:00 p.m. The children of our church family will delight us with singing, dancing and the beat of drums! Please bring your favorite covered dish as we celebrate as a church family and share a meal together.

Festival of Lessons and Carols” presented by the choirs of Lower and Philippi Christian Church, Sunday, December 11th at 5:30 p.m. at Philippi and 7:30 p.m. at Lower. This festival of stringed instruments, voices, organ, candlelight and scripture will surely fill our hearts with wonder and praise for the Birth of our Savior! What a Christmas Blessing to be able to join together in song and praise. Pleases join us for this glorious celebration!

Christmas Eve Worship ServicesSaturday, December 24th at 5:30 p.m. and candlelight service at 7:00 p.m. Between services we will enjoy a Living Nativity outside the church entrance.

Christmas Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 25th. (No Sunday School or evening service.)

Twelfth Night Colonial Dinner” Christmas Celebration Program, Friday, January 6th .  This will be our first celebration in 2017 of our 300th Anniversary. This meal will be catered and reservations will be required with the price to be determined as soon as the menu is finalized. After dinner we will move into the sanctuary and be transported to the colonial era of our history as we experience the Christmas twelfth night sights and sounds of that era.

POINSETTIAS – Next Sunday and December 11th you will have the opportunity to order poinsettias to be placed in the sanctuary for Christmas in honor or memory of a loved one.  

TOYS FOR TOTS – Our toy drive is ongoing through December 16th.  Please place your donation in the collection box near the entrance by the church office.  

LET’S TALK ABOUT PICTURES! - As we prepare for the 300th Anniversary of LUMC, we are looking for pictures of activities and families from Lower Church. All photographs will be scanned and original photos given back to the owner. Please contact Rebecca Ballard at, leave an envelope in the church office with a note "Rebecca Ballard photos", or see Rebecca during church, or Sunday School. Documenting our history with photographs is important. Please provide as much information about the photos and people involved to be included in a PowerPoint during the celebration. Thank you!
